Vision and Mission

The Florida Food Policy Council (FLFPC) mission is to create a more equitable and sustainable food system through collaboration and policy advocacy for the benefit of all Floridians and the environment. Its vision is to build a culture of health rooted in food justice and equity by connecting the community to their food and improving overall well-being. The council works to address gaps in the food system and advocates for policies that support food access, the environment, and community well-being.

Vision
A Florida where every person and community has the right, resources, and power to access, grow, and enjoy healthy food; where food systems are rooted in justice, sustainability, and shared prosperity for people and the planet.

Mission
The Florida Food Policy Council connects, educates, and mobilizes communities, organizations, and policymakers to advance equitable and sustainable food systems across the state. We do this by:

  • Building partnerships that bridge grassroots leadership and government action.
  • Advancing policies that uphold the Right to Food and expand Food is Medicine initiatives.
  • Supporting community-based research, education, and capacity-building to address hunger, land access, and climate resilience.
  • Amplifying local voices to shape fair, inclusive, and transparent food policies.

Values Statement
Our work is guided by values that reflect both our community roots and our statewide reach:

Equity and Justice – We confront structural barriers and center communities most impacted by hunger, poverty, and racism.
Collaboration – We believe food system change requires cross-sector partnerships among farmers, advocates, researchers, and policymakers.
Transparency and Accountability – We lead with honesty, integrity, and shared learning.
Community Power – We uplift grassroots leadership, cultural wisdom, and lived experience as sources of policy innovation.
Sustainability and Resilience – We promote land stewardship, environmental health, and local food economies that sustain future generations.

A Letter from Our Executive Director

The Florida Food Policy Council has reemerged with a renewed vision—grounded in justice, resilience, and community power. From hurricanes and housing instability to the fight for the Right to Food, our team has spent the past few years listening, rebuilding, and connecting communities across Florida. Through our partnerships—from One Community Grocery Co-op to the Right to Food National Community of Practice—we are cultivating a more equitable, sustainable, and just food future for all.
